Goldman Sachs has slashed its sales forecast for Google's Nexus One smartphone, following lackluster performance in the first few months of availability. The analysts initially expected sales of approximately 3.5 million units through the end of the year, however the figure has now been reduced to just 1 million handsets in the same time period....
HP has put up a new video (seen below) of its Windows 7 slate in a direct jab at the iPad. The clip shows the tablet running Adobe's Flash for sites like Hulu as well as AIR for out-of-browser apps like Pandora radio. The presenters add that Flash on the tablet is boosted by hardware and should support HD video for "hours and hours" on a battery charge....

A new slip today has reinforced beliefs that the iPad has room for camera hardware. Photos of a new, slightly modified version of the frame seen a month ago still show holes that mimic those seen for webcams on Macs. The only changes appear to be the placement of holes in the bezel and a more obvious space for the home button....
Aiptek's PocketCinema Z20 is a combination pico projector and digital camera. It has 2GB of internal memory and a microSD memory card to store still images or video recordings captured by its 5-megapixel camera. It can capture 720p videos but is unlikely to be able to reproduce them at the same resolution....
Apple participated in bringing Valve games and the Steam platform to Macs, says John Cook, Valve's director of Steam development. Cook elaborates that Valve has been "working with them [Apple] a bunch" while growing accustomed to Mac development. "They've been a great partner so far and we look forward to growing our relationship with them over time," he tells AppleInsider....
Native Instruments has announced that its Evolve Mutations instrument package has been updated with new content. Version 2 brings over 300 new sounds based on 2GB of samples which include instruments, rhythms, and ambiences. The update also offers a new "Trigger FX" sound processing utility that spreads changes such as saturation, panning and delay effects between different octaves on the keyboard....
AT&T's first Android phone, the Motorola Backflip, may have had app supported artificially locked down to a level like the iPhone, early owners have found since the phone shipped Sunday. Where by default Android is supposed to allow installing third-party apps from outside Android Market through a special toggle, the AT&T version of the Backflip omits this feature entirely and limits apps to the store....
Following a considerable beta period, LogMeIn says it has launched the completed version of Pro2 for Mac. The service lets users remotely access a Mac or Windows system from either operating system, or else an iPhone. Until recently, Pro2 was only available to Windows users....

Apple attempts at blocking unwanted titles from the App Store have evolved to target so-called "cookie-cutter" apps, developers say. The affected apps -- in the crosshairs for approximately a month, according to claims -- are mostly built with special generator software, which can be used churn out apps based on standard templates. Barnes & Noble on Monday said it has hired Time Inc. veteran Jonathan Shar to create and head up subscription content for the Nook. Now the General Manager for the company's new Digital Newsstand and Emerging Content group, the former CNNMoney Senior VP will set up deals for magazines, newspapers and online news sites to provide regular downloads of this material for the e-reader. No early details were given as to plans for the actual service....
Canon on Monday introduced its new REALiS SX7 Mark II media projector for image editing professionals. The LCOS-based system has an unusually high native resolution of 1400x1050 along with a 4,000 lumens brightness rating. It also has a unique a Photo Image Mode to allow photographers, designers and publishers to reproduce color-correct images in the Adobe RGB or sRGB spaces. Apple executives are flying into the UK this week in order to negotiate carrier deals for the iPad, according to The Times. Although the iPad is set to ship in the region as soon as late April, Apple has yet to solidify who will sell SIM cards for 3G versions of the tablet, or how much data plans will cost. Times sources claim that some preliminary talks with UK carriers have already taken place....
Verizon today expanded on some of the actual results for its expected 4G network. After testing in the Boston and Seattle areas, the provider estimates that a real connection on a populated network should average between 5Mbps to 12Mbps in download rates and between 2Mbps to 5Mbps for uploads. Actual, achievable peak speeds in these areas float between 40-50Mbps downstream and 20-25Mbps upstream....
Apple's impending launch of the iPad won't have a "rising tide" effect on sales of Windows-based tablet PCs, IDC said in a new estimate today. While the Apple tablet could well be successful, the analysts don't expect that success to spill over to devices like the HP slate or the Lenovo IdeaPad U1. Windows tablets like these will get publicity but no large sales, IDC said....
One of the Valve games coming to the Mac has been confirmed as Portal 2. The information comes from a preview in Gameinformer magazine, which also cites the Xbox 360 as an intended platform alongside the main target, PCs. The game is due in the fall, though whether all three versions will release simultaneously is uncertain....
